The two texts that are focused on are Pan am and Beyonce's video why don't you love me?
3) What examples are provided from the two texts of the 'male gaze' (Mulvey)?
The examples from Pan am I have seen in the text was: "with a face like that you will find a husband in a couple of months" also "fragmented legs as they walk in unison through the airport". This is proof of male gaze as the first quote speaks about how their faces are very beautiful as they say they can get a husband in a couple of months so they are there to be looked at also the shot of the legs is also for them to be looked at by males predominately.
Within the second the text male gaze is shown numerous times where she objectifies herself to the camera by wearing tight clothes and not wearing much clothing and also with lyrics saying why don't you love me it is clear to see she is trying to catch someones attention and wants to be looked at.
4) Do texts such as these show there is no longer a need for feminism or are they simply sexism in a different form?
I believe it is sexism in a different way as I believe these texts are reinforcing why feminism is needed as it is over sexualising women and linking to the male gaze in that they are being objectified and are only there to be looked at.
5) Choose three words/phrases from the glossary of the article and write their definitions on your blog.
Feminism – A movement aimed at defining, establishing, and defending women’s rights and equality to men.
Post-feminism – An ideology in culture and society that
society is somehow past needing feminism and that the attitudes and arguments of
feminism are no longer needed.
Patriarchy – An ideology that places men in adominant
position over women.
