Post-colonialism: blog task

List FIVE films, FIVE TV programmes and FIVE online-only productions

Films: Adulthood, Anuvahood, attack the block, shank, sket
Programmes: Top boy, 55 degrees north, line of duty, The Kumars at no 42, Goodness gracious me
Online: brothers with no game, Venus Vs Mars, The Ryan sisters, All about the Mckenzies, Meet the Adebanjos

To what extent can we apply Alvarado's and Fanon's theories to these films? Do they reinforce or subvert typical black stereotypes in British film and TV?

The theory of Alvarado can be used within these films such as humorous as the people sitting on the wall are making jokes about different subjects such as black people compared to white people. Within the short film Destiny made ‘Gone too far’ dangerous has been involved for a brief second where there is a group of people acting tough in the park. Pitied may be involved with the boys on the wall as it looks as if they live in an estate and that they are sitting on the wall which could mean they have nowhere else to go.
The theory of Franz Fanon can also be included within the films she has made as one of the girls within her film gone too far could be seen as putting the white mask on as she was acting as if she was part of the white society and as if she not black. The main actors in both the films she made could be seen as gangsters as they are seen as stereotypical black youths, which could then reinforce the stereotypes of black people within British film. But the girl who is acting white does not reinforce the stereotypes of black people as she is acting as if she is not black.
